Glass Technology
Prerequisite : ENG26 2001 Introduction to Ceramic Engineering
Glass and classification of glasses, basic of glass chemistry, the technology of glass manufacturing; Preparation of raw materials, calculation, and design of glass compositions; glass melting, glass furnaces; chemical and physical properties of glasses, standard testing for quality control and applications; and state-of-the-art in glass technology and development.
Learning outcomes
- Explain the basics of glass chemistry, roles of materials, and manufacturing processes of various types of glasses.
- Calculate and design glass compositions, and explain the preparation of raw materials and principles of glass melting.
- Explain principles of glass furnaces concerning the production control and quality of glasses.
- Explain measurement and testing methods to clarify the basic chemical and physical properties of glasses.
- Explore and express the state-of-the-art in glass technology and development.
