Prerequisite: ENG30 2001 Engineering Statics
Fundamentals of dynamics, Newton’s law of motion, Kinetics of a particle, Equation of motion and Newton’s second law, Work and energy, Impulse and momentum, Kinetics and dynamics of rigid-body in planar motion.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the principle of dynamics and to describe the motion of particles, vector functions and the fundamental laws of Newtonian mechanics.
- Solve mechanics problems in one dimension that involve one or more of the forces of gravity, friction and air resistance.
- Apply the principle of work and energy to solve problems that involve force, velocity, and displacement.
- Apply the principle of linear impulse and momentum for a particle to solve problems that involve force, velocity, and time.
- Identify the various types of rigid-body in planar motion.
