Dimensional Metrology and CMM

Prerequisite : None

Study of part measurements and geometrical control using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards; differences between the concepts of true value, precision, accuracy and reproducibility and define the concepts of error and uncertainty; developing a measurement strategy, Use of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and developing a sense of responsibility for the measurement process and its practical application.

Course Outline

1. Dimensional measurement methods according to the standard Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). (4 hr.)
2. Differences between dimensions specified in the drawing. (8 hr.)
3. Dimensional accuracy and correctness, and repeatability. (12 hr.)
4. Determining measurement strategies. (12 hr.)
5. Using 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). (12 hr.)

Learning Outcomes

1. Read technical drawings for measurement purposes.
2. Develop measurement strategies relating to dimensional and geometric specifications.
